It’s been a busy term in more ways than one at OUTTC, and in that time we’ve played Town vs Gown and Varsity matches.
Both matches were extremely exciting. Played over 10 matches of 5 sets, we had Men’s 1st, Women’s and Men’s 2nd teams all playing.
The Men’s 1sts won Town vs Gown with a 7-3 scoreline for the first time in 6 years, meaning that OUTTC has a beautiful wooden trophy to put in its metaphorical cabinet!
Men’s 2nds drew 5-5 with the Town team, and the Women’s team lost 9-1.
In Varsity, Cambridge showed they have strength at the top, beating the Men’s 1st 10-0. However, we won many sets against them, forcing them to play harder than they have in the last 4 years to beat us with this scoreline. They told me a lot of their players are leaving this year, so we may well win a match or two off them next year!
The real stars of the show were the Men’s 2nd team, with Michael, Haijie, Ben and Maciej winning 6-4 against their Cantabrian opponents. Especially noteworthy was Ben coming back from 2-0 down, and 9-5 down in the final set to secure Oxford’s victory.
The women’s 2nd team fought extremely well to secure 2 matches against their more experienced Cambridge opponents, eventually losing 8-2.
All in all, it’s been a great term for OUTTC, and things are looking upwards, and with most of our players staying on next year, hopefully we’ll keep up our fantastic strength in depth.
