At the end of Trinity term the inter-college Cuppers competition reached its conclusion in the men’s and team events, with Oriel College dominating proceedings. Xi Dai triumphed in the men’s singles, and also paired up with fellow blue team player Hrishikesh Paranjape to win the team event. Club president Luke Austen and teammate Hugo Kent-Egan, representing Pembroke, had a good run to the final, but were squarely beaten faced with the strength of Oriel. Congratulations to the Oriel team, and best wishes to Hrishikesh as he moves on from Oxford having completed his economics masters.
The women’s singles competition will be concluded at the start of Michaelmas term, with the women’s blue team players having successfully negotiated their way through the field to the final stages – top seed Niloofar Karaji will play one of teammates Kritica Dwivedi or Danielle Whealy in the final.
Cuppers has been a huge success for OUTTC this year, with over 100 entries in total. College level table tennis is continuing to grow in Oxford, and entry for this year’s Colleges’ league (which blues can’t enter!!) will open soon.
