On Saturday, the 21st of November, the Oxford Women participated in a BUCS Tournament organised for our league, hosted by Oxford Brookes at their sports centre. Braving the chilly winds (and getting a little lost on the way), we arrived at the sports centre determined to give it our best shot.
Our first match was incredibly close: Carolina Toso and Louise Todd lost 3-2 to Nottingham 5th in some frustratingly close matches. Nottingham 3rd and Loughborough 1st ultimately proved too strong for Carolina, Shuqiu (Sue) Wang and Kritica Dwivedi, beating us 5-0, although we learnt a lot from the experienced (and some national-level) players. However, there was a silver lining as we ended the day on a high, with a comfortable victory against Oxford Brookes – Louise and Yilin Shi won 5-0 without conceding a single game.
In the end, we played very well and supported each other during every match, with special help from Alison Cheung’s coaching. It was a great day with strong performances, and left us determined to continue training until the next BUCS Tournament in February.
