On Wednesday of 4th Week, the Men’s Blue team headed up the hill to take on Oxford Brookes in a local derby BUCS match. El Capitano Adam Stanway was unavoidably stuck in a physics tutorial, meaning we started the match 4-0 down, but 3 strong singles wins each for Maciej Jarocki, Dai Xi and Luke Austen took us over the winning line, despite some narrow defeats to Brookes’ number 1 player. At 9-7 up we were able to relax, losing the doubles didn’t matter – it was 3 points in the bag, moving us up to 4th in Midlands 2B. Overall we won the fixture 9-8. Coventry at home is next up, which will be another chance to get some more match play before Varsity, away in Cambridge, on March 8th.
